Vol.1 – Tower Records variant

To commemorate the 2nd episode of Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe‘s OVA, a special exhibition was held at Tower Records Shibuya from April to May 2018.  You could find illustrations, storyboards, a partial reconstruction of the most famous places in Morio-cho (the town where 4th arc Diamond is Unbreakable takes place), and so on. A special food menu was also featured in the Tower Records Cafe Shibuya & Cafe Umeda

Furthermore, if you pre-ordered the volume 2 limited edition with DVD, you would receive a cover variant in the classic Tower Records fashion: yellow, yellow, more yellow, and then a splash of red.

The Tower Records variants are a love-it-or-hate-it affair. Their design is stripped down to the extreme, dominated by that unmistakable yellow&red combo. Beyond being absurdly rare, they also embody the sheer stoicism of the Japanese market, the only place on Earth where Tower Records not only survived but thrived. While the chain crumbled in its US homeland (and pretty much everywhere else), Japan embraced it, fusing it with local pop culture touchstones like anime and manga.

Relic of a bygone era, as stylish as only an Araki work can be.
