20th anniversary special cover

PVC cover released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series.

The way to get it was quite unusual. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Shogakukan launched in 2014 a massive year-long campaign called “Premium Gift Campaign: a gift for all applicants” …and true to its name, every fan who mailed in a set number of coupons received a prize. The coupons came with the purchase of Detective Conan volumes, and the rewards were split into two phases.

From January to July, fans could send in:

• 5 coupons for either a set of 5 illustrations or a special PVC cover (this one)
• 10 coupons for the Gosho Aoyama Name Collection, a booklet of the author’s original storyboards

From July to December, the prizes changed:

• 5 coupons for a calendar or a set of pins
• 10 coupons for an exclusive deck of cards

It was a clever way to engage readers, and every participant walked away with something, making the campaign one of the most memorable in the series’ history.
