Vol.1 – Animate variant

Volume 1 cover variant exclusive to Animate stores, released to celebrate the series’ debut in Japan in tankobon format.

If you’re not familiar with the Japanese market, you should know that 99.9% of variant covers released in Japan are provided separately as loose dust jackets. Sometimes they’re included as magazine inserts, other times they’re given as purchase bonuses, or even won through lotteries or contests…but almost never pre-applied to the volume.

This is one of the rare 0.1% exceptions. You could almost call it a “Western-style” variant, given that releasing an alternate cover for the launch of a new series is quite common outside Japan.

Anyaway, the theme is Alice in Wonderland, and it features an original illustration created specifically for the occasion. Together with its Little Red Riding Hood counterpart, it forms a small fairy-tale-inspired set
