Vol.1 – Comic Action variant

Volume 1, variant cover, sold exclusively at the publisher booth (Panini Comics) during Comic Action 2003. Comic Action was an annual comic convention held from 1999 as part of SPIEL Essen, the world’s largest board game fair.

Traditionally, publishers brought to Comic Action limited editions and variants of American comics, the only market that truly thrived in Germany at the time. But in 2003, Panini surprised everyone by releasing a manga variant, probably the first ever published in Germany.

A historic move, though it apparently didn’t make much of a splash in the local market. It would take more than ten years to see another German manga variant.

Not extremely rare, but a must-have for any collector who loves manga history.
