Vol.1 – variant

Volume 1 cover variant released for the series’ debut in Italy. It comes also with 4 illustration cards.

The transformed body of Kafka (protagonist) on the front cover is made of granular fibers that give a rocky effect to the touch and sight, exactly like a Kaiju’s skin.  This is a variation of the classic “flocked” effect that usually returns a more velvety sensation.

The Italian publisher (Star Comics) has invested a lot in the promotion of the series. In addition to an advertising campaign in the Milan subway, 4 different editions of Kaiju no.8 were released simultaneously at launch:

• Vol.1 Variant edition (this one)
• Vol.1 Limited edition 
• Vol.1 Puzzle edition (regular vol.1 + illustration card + piece of a puzzle)
• Monstrous Box (regular vol.1&2 + keyholder  + badge + magnet + numbered star card)

Only the first two can be considered variants, nonetheless, this is a notable effort that is not often seen in Italy.
