Vol.1 – Musicland variant

Musicland Group was a major American retail company that operated music and entertainment stores like Sam Goody, Suncoast Motion Picture Company, Media Play, and others. Founded in 1955, it became one of the biggest chains selling CDs, DVDs, and related merchandise.

It’s still unclear why Musicland stores decided to release an exclusive variant almost two years after the series debuted in the United States. Perhaps it had something to do with FLCL’s extraordinary soundtrack and the fact that Musicland – nomen omen – had a special connection to the world of music.

We may never know for sure. What’s certain is that only a few months later, the group declared bankruptcy, and this edition became nearly impossible to find.
