Vol.1 – Blank variant

On January 19 and 20, Darwin’s Incident creator Shun Umezawa was a special guest at Momie bookstores in Lyon and Chambéry.

For the occasion, anyone purchasing volume 9 of the manga received a special blank variant cover of volume 1, which the author would sketch and sign on the spot.

At last, the infamous all-white covers so common in the American comics market make their way into manga. This stands as one of the earliest – if not the very first – true ports of the blank variant concept into the manga world. A brilliant initiative that resulted in a deeply personal, one-of-a-kind variant: unmissable and nearly impossible to find.

The event itself required reservations and lasted only an hour and a half each day. In other words, not only are the copies extremely scarce, but each one is dedicated to a specific attendee, making it even less likely that owners will ever part with them due to their strong sentimental value.
