Volume 1 cover variant released in ???

This is where the story gets truly fascinating. We’ve already seen how volume 1 of the Italian edition of Appleseed was released with a special label that, back in 1995, essentially classified it as a variant.

But around the same time, another volume surfaced, this one featuring a completely new cover for the Italian market. To this day, it remains a mystery when and for what occasion this variant was released. What is certain is that it’s even rarer and more intriguing than the first.

The only clue we have lies in the cover text: instead of simply reading “Collector’s edition”, it says «Collector’s edition. Limited printing». This suggests it may have been a special release for comic shops, perhaps tied to the first print run.

Either way, this stands as the second variant ever published in Italy and, thanks to the mystery surrounding it, a true relic waiting to be investigated.
