Mushishi

Serialized in the seinen magazine Afternoon Season Special Edition from 1999 to 2002, and in Monthly Afternoon from December 2002 to August 2008.

The series is made up of self-contained episodes where the mysterious Ginko encounters different cases involving the Mushi, strange life forms that aren’t quite insects or animals. Neither good nor evil, their coexistence with humans often causes problems only a “Mushishi” can solve.

Because of this format, many different characters appear, though few return in later stories. The only constant is Ginko, burdened by an amnesia that hides his childhood, wandering across Japan in search of new cases, unable to stay in one place for long as he naturally attracts Mushi.
