In 1935, Isamu Higata, a young Japanese farmer in Manchuria, sees his daily life turned upside down when the plague finally affects his mother. To earn the money needed for his treatment, he starts growing poppies and succeeds in purifying opium. But in doing so, he falls into the world of mafias.
