Vol.1 – So Lucky edition

Volume 1 cover variant released “exclusively” (haha) at Lucca Comics & Games 2017.

Let me tell you a story about gambling, drama, a plot twist, panic…  it seems like a chapter from Kakegurui but it is what happened with this variant.

First of all, the genius way to distribute it at Lucca festival; Kakegurui is a series about gambling so the publisher (J-Pop) decided to install a roulette that customers could spin after spending a determinate amount at the booth. There were various items up for grabs: a notebook, a tote bag, a t-shirt, a poster… and the top prize was this cover variant.   Very simple, very effective, perfectly aligned with the mood of the manga.

For years it was one of the rarest and most desired Italian variants, until, 5 years later, a store from a well-known comic-book chain found a box with some remaining inventory inside, and SURPRISE… 500 more copies flooded the market. Resellers panicked and started undercutting each other destroying the value in just a few weeks.

Moral of the story? Play the “variant game” at your own risk, the house always wins.
