Cover variant given as a bonus for those who purchased Kill la Kill vol.1 at Toranoana store(s). Released to celebrate the series’ debut in Japan, probably in vanishingly limited quantities.

It also appears to have been distributed as a bonus item for the purchase of vol.1 limited edition Blu-ray, which came out the following month, in January 2014.

As you can see, I’m using cautious language, since the information about this variant is incredibly fragmented and incomplete

The most incredible thing about this dover isn’t even its rarity (which is absurd, by the way), but the fact that for years no one – and I mean no one – had the slightest idea where it came from or when it was released, to the point that some even thought it might be a fan-made variant.

Even now, I dare you to try to dig up anything concrete about it online. This variant may as well have never existed. Only through the combined efforts of a handful of top-tier Italian collectors was it possible to piece together some facts.

Visually stunning with a rarity off the charts. The cover itself pays respectful homage to the anime’s key visual, but reimagined in the mangaka’s own style.
